Message from the Dean

Ralph O. Mueller As the first decade of the 21st century comes to a close, a clear and urgent sense emerges of the global centrality of education and health services. It behooves us to improve not only the quality of educational experiences across the lifespan, but also the relevancy of the work we disseminate. We in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP) will continue to prepare exceptional professionals in the life sciences by emphasizing reflection, collaboration, and scholarship and by exhibiting a deep commitment to local, national, and global communities.

My commitment and emphasis will now be to focus past efforts and direct them toward achieving three synergetic goals:

  • to promote a culture of scholarly excellence that encourages heterogeneity of thought and that rewards productive collaborations among our faculty, students, and external partners;
  • to cultivate a diverse academic climate that facilitates relevant solutions to benefit all our constituents;
  • to advance relations with local, national, and international educational and health service institutions to form meaningful partnerships that equally promote the University of Hartford and its external affiliates.

I am honored to have the opportunity to succeed six outstanding University of Hartford leaders: the former deans who led the various programs in the educational and health sciences, Irving S. Starr, Cecilia Welna, Donn Weinholtz, David Caruso, H. Frederick Sweitzer, and Dorothy M. Zeiser. As I begin my tenure in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP), I am humbled by and proud of the many successes of our outstanding students, faculty, and staff, both past and present. I sincerely hope you will share not only my appreciation for past accomplishment and my optimism for the future of ENHP, but that you will become a participant in our future.

Most sincerely,

Ralph O. Mueller
