This unique program was created in partnership between the University of Hartford and CREC Soundbridge in Wethersfield, CT, a nationally recognized regional auditory oral/verbal program for hearing-impaired.
The focus of the program is on the development of spoken language in children who are deaf and hard of hearing. You will learn how to use advanced hearing technology to help hearing-impaired children optimize their auditory access to spoken language. The emphasis on aural habilitation (developing listening potential) and hearing technology ensure that professionals will have the knowledge and skills to work with children with hearing loss now as well as in the future, as technology and educational innovations continue to develop.
This master's program is designed for professional teachers (certified early childhood, elementary, special education, or secondary). It would be appropriate for new teachers who wish to specialize, current teachers of the deaf who wish to enhance their practice through graduate study and for experienced teachers who wish to make a significant change within their career. Those with academic preparation in related fields such as communication disorders would bring a strong background to the program and would be considered after obtaining initial teacher certification.
