Early Childhood Education (Masters)

The Early Childhood Education program is designed to prepare teachers at the graduate level to work with all children between birth and kindergarten and/or pre-kindergarten (pre-k) and third grade. If you are interested in working with young children in public and private schools, childcare centers or other community programs, then our early childhood education program is right for you.

The program focuses on the theoretical and practical aspects of the physical, intellectual, language, social/emotional, and creative needs of young children. It includes the integration of services for children, especially the needs of the family and collaboration with other professions.

You will participate in a pre-k/kindergarten placement, and in a second placement in either the birth to age 3 setting or grades 1,2, and 3. This will depend upon whether you choose to seek endorsement in birth to age 3 or grades 1,2, and 3 or both.

Accreditation Certification programs in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions, including our graduate program in Early Childhood Education, are approved by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) as well as the state of Connecticut Department of Education. Information about NCATE is available at www.ncate.org.
