Barbara Intriligator

"Our students feel like they're giving themselves a gift when they enroll in our doctoral program in educational leadership," says Barbara Intriligator, associate professor and department chair. "They're primarily adult learners who are well-established in their careers. Now that their children are grown, they're coming back to school to start the second phase of their lives and to make a long-term impact on their professions."

Intriligator designed and built the doctoral program at the University of Hartford 15 years ago. She is a recognized expert in the field of organizational change with a wide range of experience in both the public and private sector. Intriligator created the Interorganizational Arrangements Model, a comprehensive and widely-used tool that helps organizations work together in new ways to meet common goals. The model has been used to improve the operations of 20 different organizations across the United States.

The doctoral program has also changed in very positive ways over the last 15 years. "While our original focus was on educational leadership, we've attracted a number of students from outside the educational setting as the program has grown and matured," Intriligator says. "This diversity brings a tremendous richness to the program and gives our students wonderful opportunities to learn from each other."

We also recognize that our students can make important contributions to the theory and practice of leadership. We help them focus their doctoral research on topics that are important to others in their profession and that will have practical applications. In this way they can fulfill their own dreams and leave a legacy for the leaders who will follow them.
